The Steinway Astoria Partnership commissioned LFLA to prepare a comprehensive streetscape study and master plan. The goal of the project was to enhance the pedestrian experience in a district that had become extremely varied, both in its population and visual appearance. As the lead consultant we partnered with a civil engineering and cost estimating firms to produce the streetscape plan. We assessed conditions and provided a vision that included the creation of a free and safe flow of pedestrian traffic through traffic-calming mid-block crossings, new sidewalk design with a continuous permeable pavement strip along street edge to divert run off away from the city’s over burdened system while providing water for street trees and new passive park space.
